An Amber Alert has been issued for a 5-year-old girl in Texas who police believe was abducted by three men.

While traveling on the Southeast Freeway, Vence "hears a popping noise, like he has a flat tire", Holbrook told reporters.

"The abductors kept Maleah with them and drove off", police said in the amber alert, which was issued on Sunday morning.

The stepfather, Darion Vence, said he and the boy were then dropped off Saturday night in the Sugar Land area, just southwest of downtown.

Vince passed in and out of consciousness, and came to alongside Highway 6 around 6 p.m. Saturday. His daughter was gone.

The search for Maleah Davis intensified on Monday as volunteers passed out fliers in Houston and searched a field near where the girl's stepfather, Darion Vence, 26, told police three men accosted him when he had vehicle trouble on Friday evening and took him, Maleah and his 2-year-old son hostage before dumping him and the toddler on the side of a road and fleeing with the little girl.

A 4-year-old Texas girl on the mend from recent brain surgery is missing after her stepfather says he was carjacked Saturday night while driving with the girl and then knocked unconscious for about 24 hours.

One of the men allegedly said "Maleah looks very nice, looks very sweet" before Vence alleged he was hit in the head, lost consciousness and woke up at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The reported Chevrolet's license plate number is unknown, police said on Twitter, as is the motive in Maleah's disappearance.

She was last seen wearing a pink bow in her hair, a light blue zip jacket and gray/white/pink sneakers.

He told police he tried to flag down a passersby, but when no one stopped he walked to Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, arriving about 10 or 11 p.m.

The vehicle Vence was driving - a silver Nissan Altima that belongs to Maleah's mother - is also missing, Holbrook said.

A traffic camera captured an image of the auto driving through an intersection in Sugar Land just before 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.

"She needs a lot of care and she was sick this week, too", he said.

"We'd love for the public to help us so we can fill in the blanks in this story", Holbrook said. She is African-American, with black hair and brown eyes.

"She is approximately 3-feet tall and weighs 30-40 pounds", said the organization.
