The Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee has subpoenaed Donald Trump Jr.to answer questions about his prior testimony to Senate investigators about Russian Federation, according to multiple published reports on Wednesday.

Mulvaney added that he has no idea whether Trump knew his son was being subpoenaed, and that the president left for Florida for his Wednesday rally before the news broke.

The committee has not publicly confirmed the subpoena.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., appeared to take Trump's side Tuesday, declaring that matters Mueller investigated were closed.

The top Democrat on the Senate intelligence panel, Virginia Sen. "He has done 8-9 hours of testimony in front of Senate Intel already and 27 hours of testimony in front of various committees in total", the source said.

Trump Jr. testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee in September 2017 that "I was peripherally aware" of an effort to build that project in Russian Federation, which was being pursued as his father was a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination. Trump Jr.'s testimony to other committees was in line with the account he gave to the Senate Judiciary panel, several Democrats said.

The pair pursued a potential tower in Moscow well into the 2016 presidential campaign - Cohen has said he regularly briefed members of the Trump family of their progress - but nothing came of it.

A lawyer for Trump Jr. did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday. Two separate investigations, one by the House Intelligence Committee and another by the House oversight and judiciary committees, also concluded there is no evidence of collusion. The Senate intelligence committee has interviewed numerous same witnesses the Mueller investigative team spoke with. Rick Gates, Manafort's former deputy who was charged and pleaded guilty in the special counsel's investigation, told Mueller's team about the discussion.

Mueller's report says that Cohen testified he had discussed the project on multiple occasions with Trump Jr. In January, he doubled down on having hardly anything to do with the project, telling Fox News' Laura Ingraham that it was his father's former disgraced personal attorney and fixer Michael Cohen who was handling the negations.
