Avalanche's game-tying goal overturned in Game 7 loss

Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon left and San Jose Sharks' Tomas Hertl vie for position during the third period of Game 5 of an NHL hockey second-round playoff series Saturday

Consider The Sharks 'Over' The Avalanche For Game 7

Several San Francisco 49ers players were on hand to watch the Sharks advance to their fourth conference final this decade. The two teams are very different but took similar paths to get to this third round.

Since 2015, home teams are 10-10 In Game 7's, including 2-1 this season. The Sharks took two of the three games between these teams in the regular season.

The Sharks first beat the Vegas Golden Knights in the opening round - their Game 7 comeback that featured four third-period power-play goals, a blown final-minute lead and then an overtime win will undoubtedly go down in hockey lore - before surviving a gut-wrenching series with the Colorado Avalanche in the second round. But it has not played out that way at all during the playoffs where both special teams units have been pretty much identical in their performance.

He has one in each series with five total assists for a total of seven points.

He gave them plenty more to cheer about.

Just like at forward the Blues do not have quite the star power that the Sharks do on the blue line, but you cannot argue with the results they get.

Five minutes later, he set up Tomas Hertl's ninth goal of the playoffs, before drawing a penalty and earning camera time on the Jumbotron, sending the crowd into a tizzy once again when he smiled and fist pumped.

I would just like to see some secondary guys step up and support when it is needed.

I rarely go into skater-vs. -skater matchups when breaking down a game, but tonight's tilt features a mono e mono so compelling that it deserves some column inches.

Even the Game 6 win at home proved treacherous with the Avalanche blowing a one-goal lead three times before finally winning on Landeskog's overtime goal.

Karlsson could pick it up a little in the defensive zone but so far I have liked what he has been doing. The entire starting offensive line opened the locker room doors for the Sharks players before the game as they headed out onto the ice.

There is still no indication as to how long Karlsson will play for San Jose. This upcoming series against the Blues will be yet another big test for them as they will need to adjust their play to this opponent. "There's a lot of things going, where we have a great team coming in and our focus has to stay there in front of us right now". They got rid of Mike Yeo only 19 games into the season.

Colorado's top trio - MacKinnon, Landeskog and Mikko Rantanen, the other marksman in Game 7 - has a lot of prime years ahead, and Sam Girard and Cale Makar have proven at 20 that they are both blue-line blue-chippers. It has been rookie goalie Jordan Binnington who has carried the team with his stellar performances that have been going on since early January.

It will take a total team effort defensively by the Sharks if they want to survive in this years Stanley Cup Playoffs.
