Southampton’s Shane Long scores quickest Premier League goal in history

Watch: Shane Long Scores In 7 Seconds, Fastest Goal In EPL History

Shane Long scores fastest Premier League goal of all time

The 1-1 draw moves Watford back ahead of Everton into seventh place, while Southampton sit 16th - six points ahead of Cardiff City, the current occupier of the final relegation position.

Speaking after the game, Long admitted that he had no idea that he broke the record for fastest goal when he had scored it. Long told Sky Sports News with a grin after the game.

"It's nice. I didn't find out until after the game and I didn't know what the record was before", the Irish global told the Southampton club website.

Long's effort was a fraction more than two seconds quicker than the Premier League's previous fastest, scored by Tottenham's Ledley King after 9.82 seconds against Bradford in December 2000.

Watford take kick-off, the ball goes back to Craig Cathcart at centre-back.

Scoring seven seconds into a soccer game is impressive enough, but that he managed to do it off of Watford's kickoff required the ideal blend of luck and talent.

Before many spectators even had a chance to get settled into their seats, Irish worldwide Long had charged down Craig Cathcart's clearance and chipped the ball over Ben Foster to open struggling Southampton's account.

"Mainly it's just to force that long ball so they're not quite set. Thankfully it came off", he said.

That is the only chance to beat this record because much faster is not possible I think.

"Everybody put in such a shift all over the park".
