The 78-year-old Brazilian three-time World Cup victor was being treated for "a light fever" prior to the long flight back to his home country, the sources told AFP, confirming earlier reports by French radio station RMC.
Pele appeared in good health during the media event, even joking that he hoped that Mbappe would one day join Brazil's Santos, the Brazilian club whom Pele represented throughout the vast majority of his playing career.
Pele has struggled with health issues in recent years, pictured using a cane to aid his walking due to problematic hips and knees as well as suffering from a serious urinary tract infection.
Previously, Pele had admitted to not being up to the task of lighting the flame at the opening ceremony of the 2016 Rio Olympics.
'Mbappe said France will prepare to win the next World Cup, but he should know that we (Brazil) are also going to get ready, ' Pele said. During January previous year, he was also unable to attend a tribute dinner held in his honour by the Football Writers' Association in London. Of course, as long as I will be able to win World Cups, my goal will be to win them because France is a great nation of football.
Mbappe became the youngest player (19) to score two goals in a World Cup game since Pele in 1958. The network said Pele's schedule has not been changed.
"Each player has his speciality, his own characteristic and he is very fast in his decision-making, it is one of his strong points".
