One of the largest snowstorms in more than 20 years could pummel the Tacoma-Seattle area this weekend with up to 8 inches, forecasters said.

The National Weather Service says light snow has started to make its way into the interior lowlands Sunday afternoon.


Strong winds will accompany the system and produce blowing snow, especially in rural open areas.

A low pressure system brewing over the southern plains States may intensify into a winter storm as it tracks over southern Ontario Tuesday, the statement said.

An expected 2 feet to 4 feet (0.6 meter to 1.21 meters) from Sunday through Wednesday in the Cascades could be welcome to skiers and snowboarders, Will Ahue, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Portland, told The Oregonian.

The heaviest snow is expected to come Tuesday morning and afternoon, potentially making travel hard across much of northern Wisconsin, the Weather Service said.


DC will see light snow switching over to a mixture of sleet and rain Monday morning.

The Seattle Police Department tweeted that additional resources have been dedicated to getting the homeless community to warm shelters.

In Portland, a tanker truck blocked a ramp for hours after sliding into a vehicle on an interchange between Interstates 5 and 84. The city is set for another storm Friday into Saturday, as are the areas around the rest of western Washington State. A 59-year-old man died February 7 from exposure at a Seattle light rail station.

Sang said she had never seen the store so crowded. "If you don't have to go out, don't go out'".


"I love it. I'm excited about it", she said of the snow.
