Anthony Davis cleared for return to practice after 7 games out

EditorialsWhat Anthony Davis truly wants a trade to the Lakers

The Lakers appear to be the favorites and a deal could end up happening this week before Thursday's 3 p.m. trade deadline.

Initial offers for Davis included the Lakers offering up Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo Ball, Micheal Beasley, Lance Stephenson, and Rajon Rondo, as well as two first-round picks. Because of that, it's hard to predict whether or not the Clippers will submit an offer for Davis.

The announcement opens up the door for a potential trade down the line for Kyrie Irving, or the opportunity for Davis to join LeBron James in Los Angeles.

ESPN reported Monday that Davis has given the Pelicans a list with a "handful" of clubs where he would sign a long-term deal after a trade, saying it includes Milwaukee and does not include Boston.

"I haven't been through anything like this", Gentry said of Davis' trade demand.

Pelicans star Anthony Davis requested a trade, turning away a supermax contract extension in the process. Hopefully you can see one of these deals coming to fruition. The league's landscape is certainly feeling the tremors of the campaign by Paul and Davis.

The Bucks and Clippers, per multiple reports, have yet to make an offer for Davis while the Knicks have not re-engaged the Pelicans in discussions. What's important to mention here is the salary cap relief they'll receive by being able to offload the rest of Solomon Hills contract worth another $13.2 million next season. The Lakers were also willing to include two first-round picks and take back the almost $13 million remaining on Solomon Hill's contract. The Celtics, the team with the best assets to give to a small market team whose best player requested a trade, is not allowed to make a trade. It's possible the Lakers and Pelicans could resume talks. Several rival GMs believe that New Orleans could use the Lakers' final offer at the deadline as the baseline for offers in the offseason.

Whether Davis will play another game for the Pelicans is a question that Gentry couldn't answer. "Danny Ainge has, in other words, let it be known the Celts are ready to take their chances with keeping Davis beyond the summer of 2020 when he can become a free agent".
