The trailer itself is fairly innocent until the final seconds, when Will Smith's very blue, very buff Genie makes his grand entrance and ruins everything Disney fans hold dear. "Numerous fans were unhappy with Will Smith, who like Ritchie is not seeing sunny days in his career right now, stepping into Williams" shoes. "It is honestly so amusing that the new genie looks like shit and just sort of walks over to Aladdin like "oh hey man", read another. Disney and Smith assured everyone that, yes, Smith would be blue.
While another claimed the Genie would give her "nightmares".
"Live action films are fun, stop being such a Debbie downer".
Speaking about playing the Genie in the live-action remake, Will Smith had stated earlier: "There's a little bit less mimicking". Maybe, then, the better, tougher question is, is there a reason why Will Smith's Genie should exist?
From the one-minute trailer, there are at least some fans out there who are still excited to see what the film has in store.
2019 is filled with all kinds of Disney movies some looking to wrap up long time stories and others looking to bring us nostalgia by re-making classics.
Of course, this is only one small portion from the movie, and we still have several months before Aladdin opens in theaters on May 24.
