The iPhone XR, which is believed to have been the least popular of the three, will be updated with a model that comes with the same LCD display and similar design, according to the report. It is likely that the 2019 iPhone XR will gain a secondary telephoto lens like the iPhone XS. Currently, the iPhone XR is the only model that doesn't have 3D Touch and instead has Haptic Touch, a feature that uses long-display presses and haptic feedback to evoke new actions.

That led several electronics retailers in the world's second largest economy to slash iPhone prices this week.

"What we want from Apple is something that makes us emotional, even unconsciously-say, truly attractive and sophisticated design that we can't resist", said Atsushi Osanai, a professor at Waseda University in Tokyo who is an expert in electronics.

Apple, which slashed its quarterly sales forecast last week, has reduced planned production for its three new iPhone models by about 10 percent for the January-March quarter, the Nikkei Asian Review reported on Wednesday.

Chinese retailers are slashing prices for iPhones, in what analysts see as a fresh sign that the company may be struggling to shift the handsets in the expected numbers.

That allows the company to generate more money from attached products like Apple Watches, AirPods, and services like Apple Music. A new report indicates that many Chinese retailers have taken the uncommon step of slashing the prices of relatively new iPhones in order to win the attention of customers.

12/11/18: Apple's next-gen iPhones will adopt new antenna technology to prepare for the arrival of a 5G-capable handset in 2020.

Apple is also considering dropping the LCD screen of the XR in favor of an OLED screen.

If you're familiar with the "tick-tock" upgrade cycle, you'll notice Apple (and a number of other manufacturers) follow this pattern very closely.
