Liverpool pursuit of the English Premier League title received a festive boost as a 4-0 win over Newcastle saw Jurgen Klopp's side stretch its lead at the top to six points as defending champion Manchester City lost at Leicester City. Ricardo Pereira's 81st-minute strike then proved to be the victor for Leicester.

City were unable to hold onto the lead given to them by Bernardo Silva as Marc Albrighton quickly equalised.

The Citizens lost their second game in their last three games over the weekend.

Will Liverpool win the Premier League title?

City are now seven points behind leaders Liverpool and drop to third place below Tottenham.

Leicester are now ninth in the Premier League after notching up 25 points from their 18 league games so far this season. I have to reflect and think about what the team needs and how to help them.

"Now there will be doubts but we have to change the dynamic".

Delph was sent off for catching Pereira on the follow-through from a tackle. City were surprisingly beaten by Crystal Palace, who scored three goals in under 20 minutes. We want to create our own history and it is the first time a Liverpool team has gone this long unbeaten in the Premier League and we have conceded only seven goals. Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero both came off the bench against Palace after dealing with injuries over the past few weeks. "There are a lot of games left and it's mathematically possible but we have to be nearly flawless from now".

Leicester City manager Claude Puel has admitted the Foxes' recent meeting with Manchester City in the EFL Cup is giving him encouragement ahead of today's clash with the Citizens.

To compound Manchester City fans' woes, rivals Manchester United recorded a comfortable 3-1 win over Huddersfield at Old Trafford - their second win in two games under new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since he took over from the sacked Jose Mourinho. Jamie Vardy scored his team-best sixth goal of the season in the victory. Ilkay Gündogan, John Stones and Fabian Delph - who will now be suspended anyway - have deputised for the Brazil midfielder in the past two seasons but none of those players ticks all the boxes like Fernandinho does.
