Floyd Mayweather will make a remarkable return to action in Japan on New Year's Eve when he takes on kickboxer and mixed martial artist Tenshin Nasukawa.

It is unknown whether the showdown in the city of Saitama will be under boxing, kickboxing or MMA rules, which Mayweather hopes will be resolved in "the next couple of weeks". The match has been called a "Super Challenge", and many details (including the rules, weight limit, number of rounds, and what kind of gloves the fighters will wear) are now unknown.

Nasukawa (27-0 kickboxing, 4-0 MMA) meanwhile last competed in another exhibition bout as the undefeated fighter defeated Kyoji Horiguchi in a three-round contest.

Mayweather who has stated that he would like to face Khabib Nurmagomedov, the UFC lightweight world champion, in a boxing match will now step into RIZIN FC's ring for his much-awaited MMA debut. Although he did have a lucrative win over MMA fighter Conor McGregor past year.

Floyd Mayweather of the USA speaks during a press conference in Tokyo, Monday, Nov. 5.

"I think he's young, very strong and very fast and he undefeated so it's obvious he's doing something right", Mayweather said.

"I want to continue to build my relationship with Money Team Tokyo", he added, promoting the cross-code bout as an expansion of his businesses into Japan.

I am not really sure what to expect, what about you?

"I want to continue coming over here and bringing other fighters so my company can continue to grow and RIZIN can continue to grow". Then, McGregor was a UFC superstar and Mayweather was also a retired boxer.

"I would probably say that this is my biggest event in life, so far", Nasukawa said, via a Japanese translator.

"It was a surprise offer, but I accepted with hesitation", he said. "I will show that to you, so please stay tuned".
