New Xbox Avatars Are Now Live To All Xbox One Owners

Xbox One Update Brings Amazon Alexa Integration, Next-Gen Avatars, Dolby Vision

Xbox One October System Software Update Rolling Out; Brings New Avatars and More

The primary novelty of the new update is the introduction of the new, revamped Xbox avatars, initially announced by Microsoft in 2016.

The update brings with it highly anticipated changes to the Xbox Avatar system alongside the Xbox Skill feature that will enable Amazon Alexa and Microsoft Cortana support. "You'll also find Avatars on activity feed posts, Friend blocks on the Home screen, Gamerscore leaderboards, club headers, profile comparisons, and more". Licensed objects from games like Halo and Gears of War are also being added to the new Avatar Store, offering up even more custom options for players. A new Xbox Skill is available for both Cortana and Alexa which will let you control aspects of your console with your voice.

The new update also includes the recently announced Dolby Vision support. For now it supports Netflix only, but Dolby Vision will expand to more apps in the coming months. Naturally, the revamped Xbox Avatars offer deeper levels of customisation and continues the trend of decking out your digital dude with game-specific clothing and items.

The latest update for Xbox One is a huge one.

Why would you want to pair an Xbox One with an Echo Dot? For those unfamiliar, Dolby Vision is Dolby's proprietary format for HDR video, and you'll need a compatible TV set to take advantage of it. There is also an added Australian version of the English language alongside the U.S. and U.K options.

The new avatars are much better than the previous avatars. Xbox also added an Australian accent to the English option.

And lastly, Narrator is getting upgraded with support for five new languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Polish, Swedish, and Dutch.

The new update should be available now through your console, although your device will eventually update automatically.

These updates are available because of the Xbox Insiders who have helped shape these features, so big thanks to all of you for your valuable input.
