"Are we really going to tell Brett Kavanaugh not to become a Supreme Court Justice over an ice incident in 1985, not 30 years in criminal justice".
A former classmate of Brett Kavanaugh has accused the US Supreme Court nominee of lying under oath about his drinking during his university years.
Kavanaugh and four other men were questioned by New Haven, Connecticut police for their participation in the scrap.
Kavanaugh was an undergraduate at Yale at the time.
A witness to the fight said that Chris Dudley, a Yale basketball player who is friends with Mr. Kavanaugh, then threw a glass that hit the man in the ear, according to the police report, which was obtained by The New York Times. The report shows that Dudley denied being involved, as did Kavanaugh. Parts of the incident are corroborated by a police report.
Ford alleged that Kavanaugh was inebriated at the time; Kavanaugh denied the allegations and downplayed his drinking habits, stating he occasionally had "too many beers" while pushing back on the notion that he drank aggressively. At one point, they were sitting near a man who, they thought, resembled Ali Campbell, the lead singer of UB40.
But Bazelon had posted a tweet in July in which she called Kavanaugh a "5th vote for a hard-right turn on voting rights and so much more that will harm the democratic process & prevent a more equal society".
"Brett was getting tapped in and he was incredibly drunk, in a ridiculous outfit and had to come up to me and sing a silly song", she said.
"But I did not drink beer to the point of blacking out and I never sexually assaulted anyone".
"On many occasions I heard Brett slur his words and saw him staggering from alcohol consumption, not all of which was beer", Dr Ludington said.
He has also disputed reports the judge drank excessively.
Chad Ludington, Kavanaugh's classmate at Yale and also a former basketball player for the university, brought the decades-old incident to light in a recent statement.
His statement came amid an FBI investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct by Kavanaugh, in which Kavanaugh has been accused of drinking in excess.
"I will say it again, we drank in college".
Kavanaugh's drinking habits figure prominently in the sexual-assault allegations levied against him by Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez. Sams said he and other friends helped Dudley out of the bar.
"I like beer, I still like beer, ' Mr Kavanaugh testified under oath".
That bar episode and others were something Ludington didn't find "very attractive" and he found himself drifting away from Kavanaugh as a friend.
