In fact, it could trigger a long-awaited iPhone upgrade cycle.
At an event on its campus in Cupertino Wednesday, Apple shared the details of its latest iPhone offerings. The smartphones boast whopping 458 pixel per inch (PPI), thanks to 2436 x 1125 resolution in the iPhone XS and 2688 x 1242 resolution in the iPhone XS Max.
Apple's iPhone XR is a more intriguing smartphone than the two premium iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max devices. "(It's) by far the most advanced iPhone we have ever created".
Apple could use the help.
Tech analyst Patrick O'Rourke joined in, tweeting: 'I want to go on the record now as saying that iPhone Xs Max is a bad name for a smartphone...' The crown now gets haptic support and is a major plus for anyone who uses Apple Music as their daily music driver. All three models of the iPhone come with glass screens that cover the entire front of the phones.
Hindustan Times, owned by HT Media Ltd, is one of India's largest publications that provides unbiased news, analysis and features on politics, sports, entertainment, lifestyle and more. The company makes elite products - and charges elite prices - and squeezes in just enough innovation to keep them elite.
Apple's 12-inch MacBook laptop starts at $1,299. Instead of using stainless steel like the iPhone X and XS, the XR uses 7000 series aluminium for its metal frame.
Apple might have started its annual September product event with a video inspired by the "Mission: Impossible" movie franchise, but in setting a new bar for pricing its biggest generator of sales, chief executive Tim Cook & Co are saying they think nothing is impossible when it comes to juicing demand for the iPhone. It's got the same basic design of the iPhone X and XS, with a large edge-to-edge screen.
Like the XS and XS MAX, the XR has a new Depth Control slider feature that lets you adjust the depth-of-field in Portrait Mode photos after they're captured, going from maximum bokeh at f/1.8 to maximum depth-of-field at f/16.
While Apple will hopefully release an iPhone SE 2 some time within the next few months, there's certainly no guarantee.
Xr will be a little more affordable, coming in at a starting price of £749. At $750 in the United States (around R11,000 - but the official South African price has not yet been released), the XR isn't exactly cheap. The difference between the XR and the XS comes primarily in the screen, camera, and modem.
As for the battery, Apple claims a stamina of 1.5 hours more than that of the iPhone 8 Plus.
To be sure, the XR doesn't have all of the bells and whistles in the XS. In addition to this, it will have an LCD based screen, rather than an OLED based screen.
What's more, it lacks the telephoto lens found not only in the XS and XS Max but in previous years' Plus models.
These features will be available to USA customers later this year, but Apple did not say when it would make it to the rest of the world.
But my guess is none of that will matter. The cameras have new and upgraded sensors over the iPhone X past year and Apple claims it will produce pictures with greater detail and sharpness.
