Kavanaugh did not return to the White House Wednesday after spending the two previous days there.
Prof Ford earlier declined the Senate's offer to testify unless the FBI began investigating the judge. Ford's lawyers said on Tuesday she would not appear before the Senate until after the FBI investigates the allegations.
In their letter, Ford's attorneys had further stated that Ford wished the FBI to investigate her claims before he came before the committee. Republicans ostensibly control the Senate, and Ford's unsubstantiated claims are ridiculous.
Why did the Senate set a deadline?Ford went 36 years before mentioning the name of Brett Kavanaugh, whom, as far as we know, she has never met.
Grassley said Wednesday that he is still seeking to get Ford to testify Monday either in "any format she's comfortable [with]", but tweeted that "no other OUTSIDE investigation is necessary". "I'm glad we're going to give them an open hearing". The Constitution assigns the Senate, and only the Senate, with the task of advising the President on his nominee and consenting to the nomination if the circumstances merit.
According to the spokesperson, the Federal Bureau of Investigation "does not make any judgment about the credibility or significance of any allegation".
What are Ford's lawyers saying?
But Democrats also said yesterday they were planning to attend the hearing even if Ford did not show up. "She analyzes the data and lets the data tell the story". "I sincerely hope that Dr. Ford will accept my invitation to do so, either privately or publicly, on Monday", Grassley wrote.
Judge Kavanaugh has called the allegation "completely false".
If Ford took this life-altering step because she believes that Brett Kavanaugh should not serve on the Supreme Court, then she must come forward to tell that to the Senate.
She says he pinned her to a bed and clamped his hand over her mouth when she attempted to scream. It would underscore the chaos surrounding Mr. Trump; amount to an acknowledgment that Mr. Kavanaugh is tarnished; and, by bowing to liberals demanding he not be confirmed, infuriate the conservative rank-and-file.
Republicans also seem uninterested in hearing from Judge, the man Blasey Ford says was a witness to the assault.
A video clip of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh joking about his alma mater, Georgetown Prep, surfaced this week, and people are reading into it a great deal. Maybe her claims wouldn't have stood up to questioning and Democrats knew it, in which case the smart play was to find a way to excuse Ford from testifying and somehow make it Grassley's fault.
Ms Collins and Alaskan Senator Lisa Murkowski are moderate Republicans who have voted with Democrats in the past, making them possible swing votes when it comes to Judge Kavanaugh.
Grassley stated that Kavanaugh had already sat for a transcribed interview on Monday, and that he understood he was under penalty of felony if he was not truthful.
