Trump relished playing the role of Republican kingmaker, bragging how the GOP candidates he's opposed, like Rep. Mark Sanford of SC, have lost.

President Donald Trump is arguing that Republicans need to control Congress by casting the midterms as a referendum on himself. Kasich said. "He said, 'no, I didn't.' I think Donald Trump decides where he wants to go and I think they think they're firing up the base".

Trump and Balderson headlined a rally in Ohio Saturday night, and Trump has promoted Balderson mutliple times on his Twitter page.

Trump also brought to the stage OH congressman Jim Jordan, calling him "a tough cookie". He touted Balderson's record on crime and immigration and claimed that O'Connor, if he won, would be a "puppet" of Nancy Pelosi, who stands to reclaim the title of speaker of the House if Democrats seize control of the body this fall.

Trump is appearing at Olentangy Orange High School north of Columbus in support of GOP congressional candidate Troy Balderson before a special election Tuesday.

"It's likely in the end that Balderson should be able to win narrowly", he said.

Kasich, speaking on ABC's "This Week", said he asked state Sen.

"The best-case scenario is that the presence of the president reminds not only Republicans but center-right voters that there's a special election on Tuesday", Doug Preisse, chairman of the Franklin County Republican Party said Thursday. Pat Tiberi resigned in January to lead the Ohio Business Roundtable. But a Monmouth poll released Wednesday showed Danny O'Connor, the 31-year-old Democratic candidate, trailing Balderson by only one point. The attack on James, who has been critical of Trump, came just as the National Basketball Association superstar opened up a school for underprivileged children.
