On Monday, that reportedly became reality when Beckham and the team agreed to a five-year contract that will make him the NFL's highest-paid receiver.

According to reports, Beckham Jr.'s new deal is worth $95 million, including $65 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL.

Beckham's $19M ($A26M) average salary would top the $17M ($A23M) earned by Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Beckham is set to make $8.4 million on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract.

Beckham's Giants teammates were happy for him too: fellow receiver Sterling Shepard posted an Instagram story of the two of them dancing to The O'Jays classic "For the Love of Money".

"Honestly, I don't even know how to explain it", said Beckham.

The contract extension marked the best-case resolution for Beckham who had his Giants future in doubt after a hard offseason.

Beckham, popularly known simply as "OBJ", shot to global prominence in his rookie season after making an astonishing one-handed catch in a game against the Dallas Cowboys that many pundits acclaimed as one of the greatest catches in National Football League history. "I don't know if it's a relief, I don't know - it's a combination of everything".

The three-time Pro Bowler has caught 313 passes for 4,424 yards and 38 touchdowns in 47 games over four seasons.

"I knew that it would get done; it just was a matter of when".

The contract includes a guaranteed $65m and an average $20m over the first three seasons for the star player.

The Giants selected Beckham with the 12th overall pick in the 2014 draft.
