This Is the World's Best Restaurant for 2018

Cape Town eatery named among 50 best restaurants in world

However, if you want to eat at this restaurant, you better do it soon as chef Gaggan Anand has pledged to close it down in 2020 after 10 years of service.

The three-Michelin-starred eatery was named best in the world two years ago, and was ousted last year by New York City's Eleven Madison Park.

This is the second time that the restaurant, led by Chef Massimo Bottura, has made the top of the annual World's 50 Best Restaurants list, chosen by the worldwide organization of the same name.

Although 50 different restaurants earned spots on the list, the No. 1 honor was given to Osteria Francescana as the world's best restaurant for 2018.

All of the food world's finest were in Bilbao, Spain, on June 19 to watch the 16th annual World's 50 Best Restaurants be announced.

Owner Luke Dale-Roberts says he's ecstatic about the award.

"Massimo Bottura may be a big personality with high-profile worldwide projects, but Osteria Francescana remains a small, discreet restaurant in the relatively modest Italian town of Modena", said the award's website.

The top 10 included two Peruvian restaurants, "Central" which slipped to number six from fifth place a year ago, and "Maido" which climbed to number seven from eighth place.

Tuesday's ceremony also handed out individual chef awards.

"Ranking on the 50 Best list is more about the restaurant as a whole being recognized".

Peru's celebrity chef Gaston Acurio, who is known for combining classic European techniques with typical ingredients from the Andean country, was given a lifetime achievement award.

In her acceptance speech for Best Female Chef, Smyth said she doesn't know why there aren't more women in the industry, but that it is necessary to remove barriers to "make a more human workplace for both men and women". 26 restaurants on the top 50-so more than half-are located in Europe.

In 2017, the list included no restaurants in Africa, the Middle East and India.

Cape Town's The Test Kitchen has done it again.
